The Lotus style of chess design has an eastern flavor. Makes us think of a Buddhist playing chess. Can they get any more carving detail in there? The detail every suitable part each chess piece is…. well… detailed and lots of it. The Lotus chess pieces borrow from Staunton in obvious ways yet have a style of craft that is rarely seen in chess circles and enhances the appearance. The Queen is like a closed lotus flower ready to open out with ‘Checkmate’ with the central shoot reaching upwards for the heavens. The rook has open petals with ornate detail.
